Works For Me Wednesday - Rice Cooker/Food Steamer

By nottryingforaboy | February 19, 2008

I can’t cook rice on the stove top. I’ve never been able to. Either I burn it or it ends up too watery. The last time I tried, about a week ago, I really burned it. Enough that you could just smell the smoke throughout the house.

I’m not sure why I can’t cook it. I’m not a horrible cook in most things, but rice and I don’t get along.

Until I found this:

It is a rice cooker and steamer. I use it a couple of times a week to make rice. Last week when I burned the lastest stovetop attempt, somehow the lid ended up in the wrong cabinet and I couldn’t find it.I have NEVER had any problem making rice in this thing. I’ve also used it to steam chicken and veggies. It really Works For Me.

I love my rice cooker too! I had the $5 one from when we got married until last summer. Tragically, 9 years was enough for it and I had to invest in a new one :(

I’ve never used one, as I wasn’t sure if they were really necessary or just a wasted appliance. I know the Japanese swear by them. If it steams other foods too, it sounds like it would be useful.

i have that exact same steamer and it makes the *best* rice i’ve ever had!! :) i’ve been tempted to get a “real” rice cooker, but this works so well that i haven’t wasted any energy looking for anything else… :)

I love my rice cooker too! I would always always get rice stuck all over the pan when I cooked it on the stovetop, the non-stick coating alone makes the rice cooker worth it. I’ve used the steamer for vegetables and even for frozen dumplings, it’s awesome!
