WFMW - What *doesn’t* work for me…
By nottryingforaboy | May 6, 2008
In coming up with ideas of this week’s Works For Me Wednesday, I thought of a bunch of things. My kitchen sink (hate the fact it is porcelain, shows every stain and is a double sink so my big pots and pans don’t fit in it), how LushMan’s version of cleaning is just stacking everything in sight into little piles (Um, didja see the crumbs right next to those piles or the dirt on the floor, or whatever), how my fairly new hardwood floor is being ripped apart by our chairs.
That last one made me think of my WFMW topic. Those stupid little felt stick on things that stick to the feet of chairs so the felt touches (and doesn’t scratch) your floor don’t work. They come off days after sticking them on. And then the floor gets torn up. I’ve even tried super-gluing them on.
My kitchen floor doesn’t look less than two years old.
LushMan a couple of weeks ago bought different felt things that you actually nail into the chair leg. I’m not sure if those work or not because they are still sitting stacked on the dining room table. Hmm.

Oh, what a bummer! Okay, mental note here. I might need this if we do hardwood. Thanks!

Oh - don’t fret - the chair marks on the floor are antiquing it! They are giving your home character!
(that’s what I’m saying about the marks around my husbands recliner that are really really deep on our 2 year old bamboo floors)

You’ve got to try this! I can’t figure out how to link within your blog, but go to mine and do a search for “tennis” and you’ll find my solution to the whole floor thing.

My SIL had this problem, and hot glued those felt things onto the bottom of the chairs….she claimed it worked like a charm. Those nail in things work….kind of, but then chairs don’t ’slide’ easily, so we ended up gluing the felt things onto them : )

The nail ones might work a wee bit better, as long as the nail doesn’t scratch the floor. Whatever you do, don’t get the gimmicky As Seen on TV plastic ones that supposedly let you push a chair across the room with the flick of a finger. They don’t work AT ALL and they scratch the floor up just as bad as the furniture. Junk.

my sister-in-law got a little swatch of carpet (really thin carpet) and cut little squares and superglued them to her chairs. those suckers are still on there, even with kids dragging the chairs around

We finally had to use the ones you nail on - they work well. Their great little dust bunny catchers, too!

On the porcelain sink… I have on, too, and hate it as well. I use Barkeeper’s Friend to get the stains out. It smells gross, but it works! We also have hardwoods. My children and our dog have scratched them to pieces. Problem is, they are 100+ year old heart of pine, one of the softest kinds of wood. We just may suck it up until the dog and kids are gone before we fix them again!!
