Works For Me Wednesday- “Mom, I’m borrrrrred!”
By nottryingforaboy | June 3, 2008
This week’s WFMW is all about suggestions for those long days of summer when the kids start to whine they are bored.
I am probably jinxing myself by even admitting this, but my kids haven’t really ever said that. Since they are just 4 and 5, maybe they are too young. TheOldest, when she doesn’t want to do something, says “BORRRING!” but they’ve never really complained that they are bored. I, on the other hand, did all the time when I was younger. So I know it is coming. Heck, I still get bored.
The other day though I could tell the girls were getting a bit squirrelly. We’ve been couped up a lot since school ended because of the crappy, rainy weather that decided to show up right at the start of summer vacation. The oldest two had a lot of pent up energy.
So, we went to the basement/their playroom. I moved the coffee table to the center of the room and had them run laps around the table. When they would run by me, I’d count the lap. I told them they had to run to 10. But then I would “forget” where I was or start to count backwards instead.
They had fun and ran off some extra energy!

We have three boys and people used to ask me everyday if we would try for a girl……they don’t ask anymore, we must be getting old! ; )

When my older son uses the dreaded “B” word, I make him run laps in the driveway. Physical activity and being outside is a huge cure for boredom. :o)

Too funny! I’ve found, too, that boredom is a very temporary state. Around here, the phrase, “I’m bored” always brings a project of some sort which benefits Mom. ;^) (Like an extra load of laundry or a clean fridge!)
This time of year, boredom = hot. “I’m bored.” Doesn’t mean, “I have nothing productive to do.” It means, “It’s too stinking hot to do anything, and I’m sick and tired of sweating. Make me cooler!!!” My answer: Bummer. Buck up, babe!!! It’s only June!
